Running Low? It’s Time to Stop and Refuel!

“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.” ~Buddha

This past weekend, a few ladies and I spent an overnight together for a yoga retreat for women only, hosted by the studio.  This was the second year in a row that we have done it.  To say it is a gift to ourselves in an understatement.  It is a rewarding, uplifting and renewing time that brings us back to our regular lives with a fullness of self.

Often, as women with so much personal responsibility – family, home, career, we can run ourselves down and completely drain our energy reserves. We sometimes don’t even realize that we are depleted, but those closest to us often feel the pain of our emptiness.  We may lash out, grumble or complain when we approach the work we used to enjoy.  We may begin to resent our spouses or children for needing us.  In addition, we most likely harbor guilt when we operate from a place of emptiness because we feel resentment where we should feel pleasure; we feel pressed upon and put-out where we should feel joy and gratitude; we feel angry when we should feel love.

If you can relate to these feelings, you are not alone.  There is nothing wrong with you and you can throw your feelings of guilt out the window!  You are experiencing emptiness and only by reclaiming time for yourself can you bring back the joy of service into your life.  When you give from a place of emptiness, you have nothing to offer.  You are actually creating the negativity in your life by dipping into the negative side of your reserves.  When you reclaim yourself and your own sense of fullness, you begin to operate from the positive balance within yourself and with fullness, you bring forth, offer and grow positivity.

If you are operating from a place of negativity or emptiness, you must make time in your schedule for refueling.  Just a car or jet cannot fly without fuel, you cannot continue to operate from a place of negative energy reserves indefinitely.  At some point, your body and/or mind will force you to rest as it buckles from the pressure of running on nothingness.

If you can’t get away or money is tight, you can still give yourself an opportunity to refuel.  Try one of these:

1.  Lock yourself in the bathroom and take a long bath with smooth jazz music playing in the background.

2.  Take a walk in the woods alone and listen to the sounds of nature.

3.  Wake up fifteen minutes early and journal, read or meditate.

4.  When you wake up in the middle of the night, get up and have a glass of warm milk and contemplate your life and how you feel.

4.  Watch the sunrise alone – sneak out of the house before anyone knows.

Planning for these moments is the most important way to ensure you will be able to do them.  Plan and then DO.  You are worth it!

Have a great week!

Namaste,

Susie
