Hips Are It!

This week at the studio we are moving yet closer toward spring.  As spring approaches, we who live in the colder climates begin to come out of our winter hibernation.  As we once again move our bodies with renewed energy and vigor, we may notice that our hips have gotten stiff throughout the less active days of winter.  We may experience low back pain or inability to fold and bend as before.

In recognition of this usual and annual cycle, we will be focused on the hips this week.  Our hips are central to our health and contribute significantly to our quality of life.  If we have tight hips, the rest of our bodies suffer from reduced mobility.  As we work on our hips this week, don’t be surprised if you run into more emotion and challenge than you anticipated.  The hips are the gateway to good body movement and we often store negative emotions in them.

This week I have no fancy, inspirational theme.  Instead, I offer you the gift of work, dipped in reality and covered with a sweet savasana coating.

Come, find, feel, stretch, enjoy and liberate your hips this week!

  2. I remember a teacher once said the thing about storing all the emotions in our hips, and it stuck with me ever since. So I really appreciate a deep hold of pigeon, or some other hip opener in class. It’s even better when that emotion comes up with it!
